In September, Antti Simula took the position of Managing Director at Turku Repair Yard. He is looking to make use of his long-standing experience in the maritime industry to push the repair yard forward to reaching new heights by boosting its production capacities and introducing a customer-oriented approach.
Antti sees becoming a customer-driven organization to meet its customers’ expectations as one of his top priorities. Completing orders in a quality and timely manner and enhancing competitive advantages of the services provided by the ship repair yard is another high-priority task that the new director has in his sights.
«Turku Repair Yard has developed a solid reputation with its customers. Our partners can rest assured that the yard will offer them high service quality and the smartest and most optimal solutions. However, companies in the ship repair market are presently competing not just for getting an order, but for securing a series of major projects. Therefore, we need to make our production facilities ready for large-scale and complex projects and to strengthen our competitive position in the market. And a company’s competitive power and production cost efficiency are mainly achieved through the optimization of production processes, i.e., by improving a company’s operational performance and cutting the costs, and through seamless collaboration between subsidiaries,” believes Antti Simula.
He expects his new team would take a highly professional approach to performing accepted orders, making sure the customers are satisfied, and would cultivate a good team spirit; both seen as the key competitive advantages of any company. “It is just like in ice hockey — the result of any game, tournament, season depends on every single team player, the coach, and everybody else involved with the team. Come to think of it, the coach should encourage their players to do just one thing — to come on ice and play their best. And then — to go back home, sleep, wake up, practice, come on ice and play their best every single minute of every new game,” asserts the new managing director.
Antti Simula graduated from the Tampere University of Technology with a Master of Science in Engineering degree. He has worked as a managing director for a leading Finnish engineering company, rendering its services to a vast number of international customers from a wide range of industries from the pulp and paper industry and to the offshore oil and gas industry.
