Western Baltija Shipbuilding will build a research vessel

Western Baltija Shipbuilding, a Lithuanian company owned by BLRT Grupp, will build a multipurpose research vessel for Klaipeda University.

The keel laying ceremony of the vessel, which is being built for Klaipeda University, took place in Western Baltija Shipbuiding shipbuilding yard in Klaipeda this week. The vessel is intended for the performance of major oceanographic research and will be equipped with two stationary laboratories for simultaneous geological, biological and physicochemical research. The vessel will be equipped for up to 18 scientists working onboard

„This research vessel may set the standard for vessels of this type“, – said Arnoldas Šileika, the CEO of Western Shipyard. “We are happy that our specialists were entrusted with the execution of such unique project.”

The supervision of the vessel’s construction will be carried out by the “Bureau Veritas” classification company. The completion of the vessel’s construction is scheduled for the end of 2014.
